General Wii Repairs

Wii Delayed reaction (video or audio)
Blaming that poor gaming performance on the delay between your Nintendo Wii Remote (Wiimote) and the game play? Well, it is not too far fetched. Depending on the configuration of your system, you could experience some game play experience issues with your Nintendo Wii.

Want to fix it? Here is how you can:

If you are experiencing delayed reactions when playing your Nintendo Wii, start with checking your connections. Do you have the Wii connected through a DVR, such as a TiVo, or satellite system with a built-in DVR? If you are, it is recommended connecting the Wii directly to the TV or VCR and not the DVR device like a Tivo or cable box. Many of these devices intentionally create a slight delay in displaying the picture (since they are recording), which makes it appear as though you are getting a delayed reaction from your controller. Are you connected to a projection TV? Some models of projection TVs may cause a delay when playing video games. Try another television and test for proper response. If you have removed all devices like those described above, and have tried another TV, but are still experiencing the delay, try another Wii Remote with your system. If a different Wii Remote works, the original Wii Remote will need to be replaced. Please click here for repair options. If the problem continues with another Wii Remote, then problem is most likely with the Wii console and it will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

Wii is Stuck on the Language Screen
I recently had to reset my Nintendo Wii and had a few problems with getting it set back up correctly. Namely, my Wii would not go beyond the language screen and appeared to be stuck there. My Wii Remote (Wiimote) was not functioning properly, but it did have it's sync. The problem I had was that it turned out my Wii's sensor bar was not plugged in properly -- so it was a pretty easy solution to fix the problem for me. Remember to always check your connections! Detailed instructions from Nintendo on how you can fix it are followed below:

If your screen appears frozen at the Language select screen, we have found that to be related to the Sensor Bar. Please try the following: Ensure that the Sensor Bar cord is plugged snugly to the back of the console, and is placed properly at the center of your TV screen. Check to be sure the Wii Remote is synced to the console, by using the Power button on the Wii Remote to turn the console on. (The power button is the small white button with the red symbol in the top-left corner, just above the Control Pad). If this doesn't work, try to sync the Wii Remote. Once synced, try to turn the power on the console on and check for proper response. Make sure that the Wii Remote is being used between 3' and 10' directly in front of the TV and that there are no bright light sources affecting the Wii Remote's operation (review Game Play Guidelines for more information), and that the Sensor Bar is placed properly (see Sensor Bar setup). Avoid sources of infrared light in the gameplay area such as electric, propane or kerosene heaters, flames from fireplaces or candles, and stoves or other sources of heat.

If you are still experiencing problems after trying the steps above, there could be a problem with your Sensor Bar. Please read the following: The Sensor Bar has five infrared lights on each side of the bar that the Wii
Remote uses to determine its position. If these lights aren't working, then the Wii Remote cursor will not display on the screen, and you won't be able to navigate the setup screens.

To see these lights, you will need a digital camera or cell phone camera with an LCD display. After making sure the Sensor Bar is plugged in and the power to the console turned on, direct the camera at the Sensor Bar so that it is displayed in the LCD of the camera. If the five infrared lights can be seen on both sides of the Sensor Bar, the Sensor Bar is working. While the position/angle of the camera may need to be adjusted slightly, the lights are fairly easy to see in the LCD display.

Nintendo Wii: How to Hard & Soft reset it

In some cases, you may find that your Nintendo Wii is behaving badly. It seems that most of the problems have come from older games (Gamecube or Wii Channels), or possible from the Wii Internet Channel. In that case, you want to perform a soft reset or even a hard reset on your Nintendo Wii to bring it back to factory conditions.

The problem? Well, resetting you Wii is not necessarily obvious.
However, you Ninetendo Wii can be reset in a couple of differnt ways and this may restore some reliability if your Nintendo Wii is either freezing or locking up on you. Here is how to reset your Nintendo Wii:

1. First, the easy way. A soft reset of the Ninetendo Wii. If you Nintendo Wii has just started acting up and there is no reason to perform a hard reset then follow this instruction. Simply press the reset button and hold down for 2 seconds on your Nintendo Wii Console.

2. Now, for the more advanced hard reset. Interestingly, the Nintendo Wii has NO hard reset facility to be accessed through the machine or via buttons. The ONLY way to hard reset your Nintendo Wii is to UNPLUG it for 5 minutes. Once it is unplugged it resets itself and your badly behaving Nintendo Wii should be restored. Note: By hard resetting the Nintendo Wii, it will not delete any information on the SD Card that is used for storage. If you wish to delete this data, stick it into a computer with a multi-media card device or a digital camera and reformat it.

Wii Character Moves by Itself
Occasionally I have experienced issues where my the cursor on my Nintendo goes a little haywire. It will move by itself to various sometime random areas of the screen, or it goes just gets stuck on a side or the corner of the screen. If you have had this happen to you the fix is a fairly easy one.
This usually indicates that the Nunchuk needs to be recalibrated. If the game uses the Nunchuk for movement, unplug the Nunchuk for ten seconds and then connect it again, making sure the control stick is not being pressed in any direction at the time you plug it in to allow the reset of the calibration. If recalibrating the Nunchuk did not work, then the Nunchuk will need to be repaired or replaced.
